Just looking at those beautiful creatures, breathing the same air, yet having the plain innocence and a world of their own far away from any sort of corruption and negativity, the sea creatures truly have a safe home they can thrive and live in. Sure, Goldfish is a household name, that everyone likes to befriend be it a child or a grownup but there is another gorgeous creature lurking somewhere in the magnanimity of the ocean and the sea which is a hot favorite amongst customers across the globe, and that is the Betta fish.
What is Betta Fish?
Metta, you say? Even though it is as masculine as Metta can be (in the homo-sapiens context), Betta fishes were first discovered in South East Asia. Making its home in rice paddies, and drainage ditches, the betta became accustomed to frequent storm flooding causing it to adapt – becoming a true labyrinth fish. A labyrinth fish has the unique ability to breathe oxygen directly from the air and also take in oxygen from its gills. As a result, bettas and other labyrinth fish can survive for short periods of time out of the water, thus also explaining its ability to sustain itself in stagnant, oxygen-deficient water. Bettas do best in small aquariums (at least two gallons) with a preferred water temperature between 76-82 degrees This beautiful fish got its name from an ancient clan of warriors, called the ‘Bettah’, hence it is no wonder that its diet consists of dry worms, brine shrimp or daphnia. Its life span is about 3 years and it is about 3 inches in size.
Betta Fish Tanks
Since these creatures can survive for a small amount of time, Bettas require a water tank which is slightly filtered with good water conditions with a correct water temperature of about 74 degrees and unto a gallon of water. Ideally while buying a Betta Fish Tank for these fishes, one should use up to 5 gallons of water so that they can thrive better. The pH level should be between 6.0-7.5 with the hardness between 5-20 dGH. While accessorizing the tank, one should avoid using plastic plants or ornaments with edges and instead go for Live or silk plants and aquatic caves. One shouldn’t keep their tanks under direct sunlight and should leave a gap at the top of the tank so that the Betta can come to the surface for air.
